Dodgers blow a 3-1 lead, game to Phils for the 2nd night in a row in extra innings by a score of 4-3. Philly scored solo runs in the 8th, 9th(PH homer with 2 outs by Wes Covington tying the score) and 10th on a double by C Clay Dalrymple scoring Bobby Gene Smith. Here's what "consultant" Leo Durocher said after the game:
"Walt(Alston) left Podres in too long; I knew when Rosey homered in the 7th to extend that lead, that the game wasn't over. He should've taken Johnny out in the 8th when Philly got to within 1, and wouldn't you know in the 9th, 2 outs, Covington takes Johnny deep and Bavasi just sits in his office playing pinochle while we lose 2 in a row to the Buffalo Bisons. If I were Buzzie, I'd cancel kid's day Sunday and replace it with a wake."
Alston: "Leo's job is to consult, not poke his head into my damn business. I still felt Johnny was pitching well, so did he for that matter, it is way too early to point fingers and last I knew, there were still 152 games remaining. I know Leo's appearing on Dinah Shore's show with the team Sunday, and it just doesn't make any damn sense that he's second-guessing me while practically putting his consulting hand on her dress. Until further notice, it's still my damn team and Leo better keep his mouth shut." (Meow!)
